The Minnetonka School District serves approximately 7,700 students in grades K-12. The city of Minnetonka is covered by three independent school districts. The Hopkins School District, which encompasses the central and eastern part of Minnetonka (Hopkins High School is located in Minnetonka); the Minnetonka School District, which covers a small portion of the western part of city; and the Wayzata School District, which covers a small area along the northern border.
The city of Minnetonka has a convenient location with ready access to I-394, I-494 and other major highways, placing it within easy driving distance of downtown Minneapolis and the airport. Minnetonka has a diverse mix of homes and businesses, including the corporate headquarters for United Health Group and Metris, Inc.
